Stop sporting that Star Wars lunch box. Verizon has something more functional for the frothing sci-fi fanboy (or girl).

Today, the company announced the availability of the R2-D2 Droid phone. Modeled after everyone’s favorite Astromech Droid, this device allows you to take a little Star Wars wherever you go. The limited-edition item comes packaged in a Han Solo-free custom carbonite box, with its own little a Star Wars media dock and wired stereo headset.

Of course, there’s also exclusive preloaded content. Some of those goodies include R2-D2 notification sounds and ringtones, four live wallpapers, an R2-D2 clock widget, a “Best of R2-D2” video with original Cantina music, and an exclusive Binoculars app.

If you’re not ready to upgrade yet, existing customers with Android devices running Android 2.1 or higher can soon download an Empire Strikes Back app. Features on that include sounds and photos, live wallpapers, trivia, and a “Bounty Hunt Visual ID” feature, which invites users to find and capture images around the Star Wars universe to unlock hidden content.

Of course, the stand-alone app is not the same as having your own Droid—which is obviously important to someone. (OK—to many people!)

The R2-D2 Droid is available now for $250, after a $100 mail-in rebate. To get that price, you’ll also need to sign on for two years, with an additional $30 (minimum) data pack.
