Not everyone wants to type away on a tiny keyboard. Now those of us that have a giant laptop strapped to the hip can tap into the same network that makes mobile phone web service so darn appealing.

Verizon Wireless just announced its UM150 USB wireless modem, designed to work with almost any desktop, laptop or other device with Windows or Mac OS X and a good old USB port. Plug the thing in and you’ve got on-the-go broadband access.

The service promises download speeds of 600kbps, with uploads ranging from 500 to 800kbps. The UM150 itself can also be stuff with 4GB worth of audio, video and other important files.

The device is currently available through business channels and on the web. Sign up for two years of service at $60 a month, and you’ll score a $50 rebate, bringing the price down to $79.99. It will be available in Verizon stores and Circuit City starting November 2.
