Venturer’s SHD7001 boasts a 10/100 Ethernet connection and HDMI output.
It looks like another player wants to wedge itself into the format war: Venturer Electronics. The UK company just announced the SHD7001, which they are billing as an “affordable” HD DVD player.
One of the problems (which I’m sure some of you will be quick to point out): There’s no mention of 1080p.
What the manufacturer does mention, however, is promises of a nice 1080i picture, upconversion, Dolby TrueHD, and a free HDMI cable and copies of “The Hulk” and “Troy” (for a limited time).
My problem is that the $198 price doesn’t seem all that low, given many of the promotions floating around. Walmart had the $99 player, and my $150 Toshiba player (which also came with free movies) from Amazon arrived in less than a week.
So will HD DVD hopefuls flock to the British QVC for a lesser-known brand at a semi-good deal? Maybe overseas, but don’t you bother paying the extra shipping; if you are interested, CE Pro says it can be had at Walmart.com.

I heard the news. Blu-Ray won! We all knew it was gonna happen. HDDVD is a joke. If Microsoft wasn’t so hard up for Sony, the format war would have been over Months ago. Paramount must feel like a bunch of Jerks. LOL. What a stupid deal they signed. I bet they lost Millions!
I would never buy HDDVD. It’s dead and burried. Blu-Ray Rules.
I don’t know. Like super says, there’s a sucka born every you-know-what.
Maybe some people didn’t here the news yet?!?!?
I don’t think anyone is dumb enough to buy this cheap piece of crapola.

It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
Blu-Ray won again, huh? Glad to hear it. 95% of its user-base are watching movies on a videogame console, but it’s won already?!? Hysterical!
Blu-Ray players aren’t selling at all, and the BDA needs to give away free discs in bi-monthly BOGO sales in order to keep selling movies to these gamers.
