Everyone is packing a little AirPlay into their product these days. However, Unmonday is making the Unmonday 4.3L speaker a standout by making it a nifty hexagon shape.

OK, that’s not the only difference here. The Finnish speaker company says that the AirPlay speaker is unique because it’s actually the first portable Dolby Surround speaker, but it can function in Mono, Stereo or Dolby Surround sound.

Also interesting is that the speaker has an Alpair 10 full-range driver and a motion sensor to determine the speaker’s position. The latter allows the speaker to be assigned one of five Dolby Surround channels, so users can create a larger room or whole-house setup, just by tilting the speaker.

Oh, and that aforementioned shape is a patented hexagonal porcelain enclosure. Designed with the discerning audiophile in mind, the Unmonday 4.3L has no wiring or plastic parts.

“Listening to music, wherever you are, should not involve a mess of wires or a tiresome, and often mysterious, hardware pairing process,” says Jarkko Jamsen, co-founder and CEO of Unmonday. “We came up with the idea of an embedded interface for changing the audio channels because we wanted to create a simplistic design that eliminated typical software or hardware button channel assignment. The result was the invention of a completely new channel assignment technology that can be changed by simply rolling the unit to one of its sides.”

Unmonday is taking pre-orders for the Unmonday 4.3L on Kickstarter from now through November 8, 2012. You can score one speaker for $499, but the company doesn’t expect to ship anything until May 2013. Until then, you can get a peek at the Unmonday 4.3L in the video below.
