Multitasking is alive and well, even during the Super Bowl—and we don’t mean drinking out of a beer helmet while eating a sub. According to a recent poll by Harris Interactive, commissioned by mobile marketing firm Velti, 60 percent of Super Bowl viewers plan to be holding something other than a bowl of chips or a bottle of beer during the game. These avid viewers have their mobile phone or tablet in hand, checking, well, we’re not exactly sure what, as the survey didn’t ask that question.
At any rate, the poll underscores a huge two-screen viewing trend. People want to view content while simultaneously accessing other types of content. During events like the Super Bowl, viewers will most likely shift their attention to their smart phones during commercial breaks, says the study, and eight out of 10 viewers say they’ll be doing this much more than they did during last year’s Super Bowl.
