TruAudio’s Thor Subwoofer Has Audio Superpowers
Based on the comic-book hero's mighty hammer, the custom sub will be on display at CEDIA 2013.

By Odin’s beard! It looks as though next week’s CEDIA Expo will be busting with new and interesting products. However, there can only be one with superpowers.

TruAudio will be at the show to unveil the Thor Subwoofer. Created through the company’s TruCustom Services, the sub is made to look like the Norse god’s signature hammer. That said, it’s a fully functioning subwoofer, with a 12-inch black anodized aluminum cone, cast basket, long excursion, 2.5-inch two-layer voice coil. It also has all of those super-cool etched Celtic effects.

And yes—the company chose the theme to tie this into the release of Thor: The Dark World, which is coming to theaters on November 8, 2013.

“With TruCustom, we create a lot of soundbars of different lengths to match a variety of flat-screen sizes. Custom speakers are usually built to fit specific install requirements. But it’s in custom-making subs where the client’s personality really comes out. It makes for some creative fun,” said Kary Wawrzyniak, VP of TruAudio’s technical development. “The Thor Sub is our first custom subwoofer patterned after a movie!”

If you’re at CEDIA 2013, make a point to stop by the TruAudio booth. Not only is this sub a site to behold, but the company says it will give away one Thor to some lucky AV integrator. The rest of you can expect to pay $3,500.
