Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown will be showcasing colorful places like Italy in high-def
I gotta admit, since I made the switch to HDTV sometimes I forget about some of the quality channels out there that I simply don’t watch anymore because they’re not in high-def (or my cable provider doesn’t carry them). Topping that list is Travel Channel, but seems that’s no longer the case.
The branch of Discovery network channels recently debuted as Travel Channel HD, with the motto of “Some things are meant for HD,” as its calling card. Yep, travel shows definitely fall into that category.
My favorite shows are the ones hosted by goofy, cute Samantha Brown, whose “Passport to” series has revealed some incredible sights of Europe and Latin America—she also hosted “Great Hotels,” where I got to see plenty of places I couldn’t dream of affording for more than a one night’s stay.
HD will also be prime for Anthony Bourdain’s somewhat similar, but grittier “No Reservations” series that goes farther off the map than the “Passport” episodes.
Of course, as my friend once called it the Vegas Channel, I’m sure we’ll be seeing plenty of glitz and glamor of Sin City on Travel Channel HD as well. Now I just have to beg my cable company to add it.
