For people looking to hop into the high-definition DVD market, Toshiba confirmed at its product line show in New York last week (reports EH editor Cindy Davis) that recent promotional pricing for its HD DVD players will remain. So by the holiday shopping season, HD DVD and Blu-ray might not be the bargain that mass DVD players are these days, but who knows how low the price tags will be by then!

On the entry level of HD DVD, the $100 reduction in price means Toshiba’s HD-A2 will go for $299 at retail. For $100 more, you can step up to 1080p output with the HD-A20 that Toshiba had introduced in April.

Toshiba’s top-of-the-line HD-XA2 was dropped to $799 back in the spring and will stay at that price point.
