Toshiba will not follow the path of Sony and Samsung, shelving plans to deliver OLED TVs by 2009 and 2010.
Toshiba has halted plans to mass produce OLED (organic light-emitting diode) flat-panel TVs for the near future, according to Reuters.
The company cited the high cost of mass production for those super-thin, energy-efficient TVs, which manufacturers such as Sony have already sent to market in limited production, and small sizes (11-inch screen).
Toshiba had targeted 30-inch size TVs for the marketplace for 2010 with an announcement back in April of this year, but earlier this week said it will stick to using OLED in products such as cell phones and wristwatches. While working on those smaller OLED displays, the company says it plans to keep an eye on the market for larger displays and how successful they are.
Samsung showed off a 40-inch OLED flat-panel back in October that was just .39 inches thick.

Well look who is trying to be cautious in there decisions. Well you can’t blame them to wait and see what the market does after seeing their precious HD-DVD die miserably. I think OLED is going to take off just like Blu-ray did so it looks like Toshiba will be left behind again.
