The big screen in a home theater may be the focal point in the room, but it’s the sound that captures the heart, the emotion and carries most of the excitement, and to do that right, you need good speakers.
While the speaker market for home theater systems has changed a lot, leaning more and more toward in-wall and in-ceiling models, we feel the best sonic experience is still going to come from freestanding speakers whether they’re towers, bookshelf or satellite models.
First, freestanding speakers can be moved around a room easily allowing you to find the location or position they sound best in. Freestanding speakers are not subject to the acoustic impact of the wall cavity or the insulation (or lack thereof) in a wall. They can incorporate innovative methods for dealing with air pressure and resonances to create the perfect sound. Plus they can look really good in your room and let any visitors know they’re in the presence of someone who appreciates great sound.
To help people who are in the market for new speakers, we rounded up some of our favorites here.
