Dexter is a bloody good choice from this week's new Blu-ray arrivals.

If you’re one to eagerly await the new Blu-ray arrivals each week so you can see what to add to your high-def collection—and lots of retailers like to discount the new releases—we’ll give you permission to take this week off. We almost did.

Unless you’re a fan of Showtime’s hit series Dexter or travel geek Rick Steves, the pickings are slim.

That said, Dexter does come highly recommended, and this week you can either get going on the series from the beginning with the Seasons 1-4 package, or just grab Season 4 on its own. Either one will be enough to keep you busy through the rest of the dog days of summer and into the new fall TV season.

As originally aired on broadcast TV, the Michael C. Hall series comes at you in 1.78:1 HD aspect ratio and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound. The Season 4 set comes as a three-disc package, with the complete seasons set featuring 12 discs.

For travel lovers, four releases featuring PBS tour guide Rick Steves are out this week: Italy Through the Back Door, Surprising Cities of Europe, Eastern European Favorites and Celtic Charms. Follow Rick in high-def as he takes you through all the nooks and crannies you may otherwise miss if you’re planning a trip to Europe or just enjoy viewing travelogues.
