Top Blu-ray Releases for October 12
The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street tour from 1972 highlights this week's releases.
October 12, 2010 by Arlen Schweiger

The Rolling Stones rock the house, at arguably the height of their creative career ... now on Blu-ray. Need we say more?

Actually, guess we should. Eagle Rock has given us this high-def treat of Ladies and Gentlemen ... the Rolling Stones, which mainly consists of a 1972 concert in Texas on the Exile on Main Street tour.

This year’s been a big year for Exile—this Blu-ray comes on the heels of re-issues of the original masterpiece album, often considered the Stones’ best despite its lack of top 40 hits, released as deluxe CD and vinyl packages. Jimmy Fallon even dedicated a week to Exile earlier this year, bringing on a different band each night to cover one of the songs.

The Texas concert on the Blu-ray—remastered from the original film print—will shine a light in your home theater by rocking not only Exile songs, but major hits from previous albums, as this capped an incredible run for the Stones that included Exile, Beggar’s Banquet, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers.

Also, you get some bonus footage, including a couple of interviews with Mick Jagger.

This week’s Blu-ray releases aren’t filled with great stuff, as the roll we’ve been on lately, but there are some overlooked gems. Chief among them is Three Kings, one of the first big hits for George Clooney on the big screen. It’s not your average war movie, both in the way it’s filmed and its content, and is definitely worth a look.
