Not that we want to downplay the opportunity to watch Jennifer Aniston in high-definition, but you know it’s a pretty lousy Blu-ray release week when she and the widely panned The Bounty Hunter are the biggest highlight of the week.
As long as you can put up with the typical Aniston antics, at least CinemaScope theater owners will be happy to know that this one is released in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, though we’re not exactly sure what the superwide filming adds to this production.
Actually, the best Blu-ray of the week is probably 2002’s Insomnia, from master director Christopher Nolan. With a cast led by Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank, this one definitely falls under that “taut, suspense” category. Then again, movie purists may be disappointed that it’s not the original 1997 Scandinavian release starring the always-solid Stellan Skarsgard that’s coming out on Blu-ray this week instead. The remake is still well worth your time, however.
For those who are more into catching up on TV series in high-definition, check out the complete first season of USA Network’s White Collar out this week. The three-disc set contains all 14 episodes from the well-received series, perfect for some fun summer viewing.
Here’s a look at the full release schedule for this week, courtesy of Blu-ray.com:
Assault on Precinct 13

Caught in the Crossfire
Gabriel Iglesias: Hot & Fluffy
How to Make Love to a Woman
