6. Blu-ray uses BD-J (BD-Java) to create a new entertainment experience. From pop-up and animated menus to picture-in-picture and interactive features right in the movie, Blu-ray brings a new dimension to home entertainment in a way that let’s viewers enjoy the features on their own terms. Enable them when you want to interact with your favorite film or save them for later when you just want to relax and enjoy the film.
7. Blu-ray’s capacity advantage means the high-quality that consumers demand from high definition can be maximized in every area. There is enough room on the disc for a full feature film with the best possible picture quality, 7.1 surround sound lossless audio (with multiple channels) and a host of bonus features, without having to sacrifice in one area to make room for another. And, 50GB is just the beginning. Blu-ray has room to grow as the creative community develops increasingly innovative (and space intensive) content and features.
8. Blu-ray gives gamers a big bang for their buck. Playstation 3 is the only gaming console built on a high definition platform, so every PS3 doubles as a Blu-ray player for your favorite high definition movie titles. With recent price drops and a host of new gaming titles scheduled for release, the PS3 is great for gamers as well as for those interested enjoying great high definition movies.
9. The discs can take a beating. Anyone with kids is painfully aware that DVDs are not always handled with care, causing potential damage and playability problems. Blu-ray Discs have a special hard coating that helps to protect discs from scratches, fingerprints and a myriad of other punishments that kids (and adults) can dish out.
10. Blu-ray is the safe buy. Counting set top players and PS3s, there are more than 3 million “Blu-ray households” in North America alone, and this number grows on a daily basis. On the software side, Blu-ray Disc is the best selling high definition format in the United States by a margin of 2 to 1 thus far in 2007, with a similar sales advantage in Europe and an even greater advantage in Japan. Blu-ray Disc is the safe bet to become the successor to DVD.
lol Blu-Ray disc are not 50 GB. Blu-Ray discs are only 50 GB if they are Dual-Layer but none of them are Dual-Layer so that means that Blu-Ray only has 25 GB. Also HD-DVD has a triple and quad layer disc format ready for when ever Blu-Ray releases the 50 GB Dual-Layer Discs.
I’ve heard a lot of stupid krap from HD-DVD nuts but this one takes the cake. Blu-ray fans are going to prison for picking an HD format that won? WHATEVER.
I’ve suffered no indignity and no problems with my PS3. It’s a rock-solid home theater movie player. Jason, you’re a real piece of work. Enjoy Standard-def, you deserve it.
HD DVD will be like Beta-Max…. and Blu Ray will be like laser disc.
People are funny when it comes to the “format war”. People on both sides defend it like it’s their own blood.
The format winner is standard DVD with 94% market share. HiDef formats have been around for several years now and still fail to penetrate the market. You can blame it on the war, but that would simply be untrue.
Facts are, no one has an interest in invensting the money to get this “high end” equipment and pay twice as much for a movie.
How long do you think “buy one get one free” sales will around, once the format war is over.
For all you Blu Boys out there, I hope you are prepared to drop your shorts and take it like a man… in prison. When HD DVD dies, you will be stuck with whatever Sony feels is in their best interest. Going off of past history,.... that won’t be your best interest (ie.. root kits, drm, betamax, memory stick, PSP, and on and on…).
Here’s to waiting for both formats to go belly up…..CHEERS!
Cheesus! More like a vinegar distillery! Goodness knows who took the jam from all the ps3 kids doughnuts, but they really should chill and get out more.

It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
Hey BJ,
Blu-ray released their 50 GB dual layer disks 6 months ago.
Blu-ray has a 100 GB quad layer and a 200 GB six layer disk that have been successfully tested but have not been released yet.
HD-DVD has a 51 GB tri-layer disk they have not fully tested or released yet.
....but all of this higher capacity does not matter except for PC burners. There are currently no HD-DVD burners available except for a few included with older Toshiba systems (they only include readers on the new ones now). Blu-ray burners, however, are everywhere. Try a Google Shopping search sometime before you post BS.
Wait! here you go, I’ll make it easy:
