Top 10 Blu-ray Releases for November 9
Sinatra, Clapton and Sherlock Holmes take up starring roles in this week's Blu-ray highlights.
November 07, 2010 by Arlen Schweiger

Some legendary figures make their way onto Blu-ray this week. Frank, Eric (aka god), Sherlock ...

The current generation knows Ocean’s Eleven as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and company ... but before this decade’s A-list cast of charming robbers there was the Rat Pack. This week marks the 50th anniversary release of the original Ocean’s Eleven, featuring Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Dean Martin and Peter Lawford, with Angie Dickinson as the sizzling female lead. Now that’s a cast for the ages, so if you happened to enjoy the remake, check out the original.

Speaking of one for the ages, Eric Clapton is one of the most enduring guitar heroes of all time. Lately he’s become quite the festival host, too, as his Crossroads Guitar Festivals have become favorites on DVD with the vast array of performers it attracts, and of course, Clapton himself sharing in the shredding. This year’s festival was no different, and you can crank it up this week on Blu-ray.

Another legend, this time more of the literary kind, but BBC worked on a remake of its own this year - Sherlock. Yes, the master investigator is back as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson team up to solve mysteries in this engaging television series that’ll provide a refreshing change of pace from the CSI and Law & Order franchises.

Less of a legend but more of a Mr. Popularity, Adam Sandler can be found in a trio of Blu-ray releases this week if you’re looking for laughs. He re-teams with old Saturday Night Live pals David Spade, Rob Schneider and Chris Rock in Grown Ups, and takes the starring role in a couple of Best Buy exclusive releases, Mr. Deeds and Big Daddy.
