TiVo Announces New Cable Adapter
Soon the company's digital video subscribers will be able to tap into more channels and services via SDV.

Will you need a cable adapter for TiVo? Those currently catching up on the entire season of “CSI” may be surprised.

The company just announced that they will soon offer an adapter that will allow high-def TiVo boxes to access switched digital cable channels, via Switched Digital Video (SDV) technology. This means that TiVo users can access all switched digital channels without a set-top box.

SDV also means opportunity for more interactive services, more HD channels, and other features including web and digital phone services.

The new adapter will work with TiVo Series 3 HD DVRs and TiVo’s new HD DVR. It’s also compatible with any Unidirectional Digital Cable Ready Product (UDCP) that has a USB connector and necessary firmware. 

Expect cable companies to offer the adapter to TiVo subscribers starting in Q2 of 2008.
