This room was designed around having fun, in more ways than one. Even though it had a big-screen TV, audio system and gaming area originally, after giving it a look, we think the owners are pretty happy they decided to put in a dedicated theater.
“There is a card table near the front left of the room, complete with a card motif carpet that was stitched into the existing carpeting,” begins Nashville installer Hifi Buys’ Dave Cooksey. “There is a pool table in a back area complete with WC Fields & James Dean / Elvis posters playing pool. Neon signs were used throughout the area to add a theater feel. There are also full sized arcade and pinball machines nearby.”
Plus the full-size mural depicts all of the old-time Hollywood greats, like John Wayne and Clark Gable.
As for the electronics and automation gear, according to Cooksey: Control4 equipment was chosen because of the seamless integration it provides between the audio / video equipment and the lighting control. It was also chosen because the homeowner wanted to add lighting control and music throughout the home. The Control4 equipment provides a high “wow” factor at a very reasonable price.
A Sony projector was chosen because of its excellent color reproduction. Bowers & Wilkins speakers were chosen because of their superb sound quality. The homeowners also expanded the Control4 system to the rest of the home with a house audio system and lighting control.
Not only did the A/V come out looking sweet, but the job itself went smoothly in part because Hifi Buys was able to serve as the one-stop shop for everything required, including the electrical work.
“In the state of Tennessee a contractor’s license is required for job’s of over $25,000. Hifi Buys is one of only a handful of Audio – Video companies that has the necessary electrical contractors license for the state,” notes Cooksey. “This allows us to handle all the work necessary for a project such as this with our own staff. Hifi Buys added and changed the lighting as well as providing the necessary circuits for the electronics and projector.”
It’s a good way to build up long-term customer relationships and trust. This theater alone represents the third that Hifi Buys has created for the lady of the house in as many homes over the last 15 years.
“She has a pretty good idea of what she wants and that makes it fairly easy to get the project started,” says Cooksey. The project ending is polished off by Hifi Buys, and judging by this decked-out remodel, it’s been like a Hollywood ending each time.
