Nothing says winter like an outdoor subwoofer. Yes, those holiday parties are right around the corner. It’s inevitable that someone will be hanging out on the porch or deck in freezing temperatures. For them, Terra has announced the AC.SUBe Outdoor Subwoofer.
Of course, it’s also good for the summer parties as well. Whatever the weather, this unit should be able to withstand the outdoor elements.
Designed to be partially buried, the AC.SUBe features a 12-inch ACADTM cone woofer in a sealed molded polyethylene enclosure. It also has a rounded shape and angled top section that should reduce internal acoustic reflections (standing waves).
“Unlike the majority of outdoor residential bandpass subwoofers, our AC.SUBe is a totally sealed design which will keep out water, dampness and perhaps most importantly for long term reliability, little critters” said James Banfield, Terra’s president. “This new version uses a larger 12-inch driver with a massive motor structure that delivers powerful, deep bass from an unobtrusive ‘mushroom’ shaped housing.”
With a frequency response of 26 to 130Hz (+/-3dB) and a sensitivity rating of 89dB, Terra suggests pairing the product with something like the Crown CDi 1000 dual-channel power amplifier.
Terra says that when the AC.SUBe starts shipping next month, it will be available in black and green and will replace the company’s original sealed bandpass model.
