Just last month, Terra announced plans to upgrade a few of its current speaker models. Now, they’re ready for something new. So when the company arrives at the CEDIA Expo next month, they will be packing the CA Series.
The CA Series is a new line of flush-mount all-climate speakers. Each one has a bezel-free design with edge-to-edge powder-coated aluminum micro-perforated grilles. This allows each speaker to virtually disappear into its surroundings. Other features include upgraded crossover networks and new component parts for a better frequency response and increased efficiency.
The CA Series is IP65-rated for the outdoors, as well as use in a steam room, sauna, pool house, bathroom or other damp spot.
“Although others have recently introduced bezel-free designs, we have waited until engineering and tooling could be brought on line to produce speakers and grilles that can withstand the extreme weather conditions that our products are known for. We insist on true all-climate durability and that means using powder-coated aluminum grilles which will never rust or corrode,” says James Banfield, Terra’s president. “Many similar models use steel grilles with magnets to hold them on. Not only are the grilles prone to rusting, but the magnets themselves also can rust or corrode, depending on the exact materials used. There have been a number of reports concerning magnets falling off resulting in the grilles falling off as well. The new aluminum CA grilles are a tight friction fit with a built-in safely lanyard for security under the most adverse vibration conditions. And they’ll never rust or corrode.”
The first model in the CA Series will be the CA.8, an 8-inch two-way speaker. The company plans to have that on display at CEDIA 2014 next month. The remaining models, which will include 6.5- and 5.25-inch drivers and single-point-stereo models, will start shipping over the next few months. Pricing has yet to be announced.
