Do you scoop out cat litter by hand? Can you home lights be controlled via your iPhone? Do you have exterior lighting sensors?
Those are just some of the questions asked as part of the 12-question “How Smart Is Your Home?” quiz offered by Smarthome Inc., a catalog supplier of home electronics. Other questions cover lighting, security, sprinklers and more.
After you answer the 12 questions, the quiz gives you a percentage rank of how smart your house is? (BTW… my 150-year-old home ranked a big fat 0 percent.) Then, of course, Smarthome offered me individual solutions to each scenario via products that can be purchased on its Web site. You get an immediate email from Smarthome with your results. Pretty slick.
Consumers who take the quiz can receive a 32-inch LCD from Sylvania, along with other prizes like BLUELine PowerCost energy monitors, CyberRain automated sprinkler systems, Sylvania water-powered shower EcoLights, automated Cat Genie litter boxes, Aube solar timer light switches and UPM energy meters. The first 500 to take the quiz get recyclable shopping bags.
“We’re trying to educate consumers on ways they can make their home smarter,” commented Laurie Maroni, vice president of marketing for Smarthome. “Having a smart home saves energy and resources, and ultimately saves you money.”
The first monthly prize drawing will be held on May 1st, with new monthly prizes to be given away every month through October. The 32-inch LCD TV grand prize drawing will take place October 1st.
