Swann Launches 2 Platinum-HD 1080p Video Cameras
Both the 4- and 8-channel models promise to deliver high-def in real-time or for later viewing.

A lot of people are installing security cameras lately. It’s a pretty easy addition, allowing homeowners of all shapes and sizes to peek in remotely. Some people even catch predators in the act with those little setups!

Of course, some security cameras are, well… sort of crappy. They do record, but it’s hard to make out faces or shapes. Swann wants to give the people a high-tech security setup at low-tech prices, with its new line of Platinum-HD Network Video Recording (NVR) security systems.

The hook on these new cameras is that each one can deliver a 1080p HD image, in real-time (30 frames per second), as well as during video playback. To start, the Platinum-HD line will include the NVR4-7200 four-channel setup with four NHD-820 cameras and the eight-channel NVR8-7200, which also has four cameras.

Those NHD-820 cameras can do 1000 TV lines (2.1 Megapixels) lines and have night vision up to 115 feet. Designed for use indoors and out, each one of the cameras has power over Ethernet (PoE) to transmit video using Cat5e network cable. Other features include a 2TB hard drive for 45 days of surveillance, as well as the option to stream to a HDTV with the included HDMI cable.

Both setups also work with the free SwannView app, for remote viewing on iOS, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile devices.

Swann plans to start selling the Platinum-HD Full High Definition Security Systems at Fry’s Electronics and BestBuy.com very soon. The four-channel, four-camera version has an MSRP of $1599.99, with the eight-channel setup priced at $1699.99.
