Starting today, audiophiles will converge on Denver for the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. For three days, the Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel will be transformed into a massive demo space. SVS will be ready to rock the event, with a whole new line of speakers.
SVS just announced the launch of the Ultra series. Boasting audiophile quality for the average budget, the line includes a 45-inch tall upswept trapezoidal tower, a bookshelf speaker, a center channel, and a flexible surround speaker.
The line was supposedly designed for audio enthusiasts by audio enthusiasts, which means that the company performed finite element analysis (FEA) on each piece. This involves a computer program that simulates the internal forces of each speaker, allowing for advanced engineering before the first prototype was ever built. Even the grille went through FEA!
The Ultra Tower is the flagship of the lineup, with a SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover, two 6.5-inch composite glass-fiber midrange drivers, and the company’s own ForceFactor woofer array with two 8-inch drivers horizontally opposed.
According to SVS, all of the other Ultra speakers have been designed to complement the Ultra Tower, with flush-mounted drivers and rear-mounted bass reflex ports. That Ultra Center features a vertically aligned midrange driver and tweeter in a horizontal dispersion, along with two woofers. The Ultra Surround has dual isolated crossovers for each tweeter and woofer. Also, the speaker can operate in either a bipole, dipole, or SVS’ own Duet configuration.
“SVS has always been about delivering an unsurpassed audio value to people who, like us, are enthusiastic and passionate about great sound,” said Gary Yacoubian, SVS president and managing partner. “The Ultra series speakers also embody value because our team was meticulous in choosing build materials, design elements, and testing to achieve uncompromised performance, yet with pricing for a mainstream audio fan.”
All of the Ultra speakers will start shipping on November 20, 2012. Each model will be sold in pairs, except for the SVS Ultra Center, which has an MSRP of $699. Otherwise, the Ultra Tower is priced at $1,999, the Bookshelf is $999, and the Ultra Surround will cost $1,199. All of the models will be available through the SVS website, as well as a few select retailers.
