DTV Coupons aren’t being put to much use yet, reportedly
September 16, 2008 | by Arlen Schweiger

Have you redeemed a DTV converter box coupon yet? No? Well, apparently you’re in the vast majority then.

Less than 6 percent of consumers have redeemed the government-released coupons, according to the latest study from analyst DisplaySearch, “HDTV Consumer Sentiment Study,” which based results from a Fact Check survey by the NPD Group.

The NPD Group had surveyed about 800 people, meaning there’s still a lot of coupon redeeming to be done before the February 17 analog switch-off. DisplaySearch says 23 percent of respondents indicated they have at least one TV that receives over-the-air programming.

We’ve heard good hands-on things about the converter boxes, but remember that the coupons also expire so try not to wait until the last minute.

If you’re still a little uneasy about the whole DTV transition and want to turn to the comforts of your local big-box retailer, you can check out the assistant services from Best Buy and Circuit City.

February will be here before we know it, and some markets are even making the switch early. Let us know about your successes with converter boxes in the comments below—or if you’re planning on using this holiday season to shop around for a new TV.
