Survey Finds Consumers Not Rushing into DTV Transition
A Best Buy survey shows consumers are aware of the analog to digital transition, but aren't in a hurry to do anything about it.

In a new survey, Best Buy found that nearly 90-percent of consumers are aware of the digital broadcast transition coming in February of 2009. I guess all those government funded commercials aren’t a waste of money after all.

But being aware of the DTV transition, and knowing exactly what needs to be done are two separate things. Nearly a third of those surveyed don’t know what type of TV they own - analog or digital. (If you are one of the confused, check out our highly informative DTV section.)

Apparently, there is no rush to take action. The survey found that nearly half (45-percent) of those who haven’t already prepared for the transition are going to wait until after the deadline. Wait, Americans are procrastinators?

Rather than deal with coupons and converter boxes, 43-percent of those surveyed plan to subscribe to cable or satellite.

And in the denial category, 18-percent believe nothing will happen after the DTV transition, and that their analog televisions will look similar to how they look now.

It’s weird because I have gotten quite a few responses from people that did NOT know that their DTV coupons EXPIRE. I wonder if people don’t realize and are holding off…
