Every home theater owner likes to boast about his or her bass. Big rooms with big booms is what half the fun is about, but those big boxy subwoofers tend to spoil the fun when they look like something you need to put a plant on top of.

Enter Sunfire’s new $1,700 HRSIW8 in-wall subwoofer. The new product uses two 8-inch long-throw drivers to push a lot of air, but incorporates Sunfire’s patented Stillbass anti-shake technology to keep the walls where your contractor put them.  While eliminating vibration, Stillbass also improves bass definition. Other audio specs include a frequency response of 33Hz-150Hz, and maximum output of 106dB.

To make integration easy, the subwoofer fits into a standard 16-inch on center stud bay. Six built-in wall clamps hold it in place. A wire channel around back prevents pinching of the wire between the enclosure and the back of the drywall inside the opening.

Power for the HRSIW8 comes from an external, rack-mounted amplifier that delivers 520 watts based on Sunfire’s digital amplifier technology. The amp offers a wide range of filtering adjustments and room equalization.

Sunfire is known for packing a lot of bass performance into small enclosures. Earlier this year the company released the 8-inch Atmos sub.
