Flat-panel TVs are everywhere, but the real question for you when you go shopping for a new television, is where do you want to put your flat panel?

When you got to your local big-box store, they’ll tell you about their installation service after you’ve picked out the TV. But can you mount or hang the TV yourself? You bet, and we want to help. Our DIY Step-by-Step series covers the basics of how to hang a flat-panel TV.

We’re labeling the difficulty level on this as moderate—follow the directions, and you might want to get a buddy to help with larger models.

Here’s what you’ll need to fill the toolbox with for this project:

• Lag Screws (should come with wall mount)
• Level
• Pencil
• Stud finder
• Screwdriver (or hex driver for lag screws)
• It is also highly recommended to use a flat-panel style power conditioner. They can easily mount behind the TV and are some of the cheapest insurance you can get. They also filter out a great deal of the “noise” in the electrical system, helping the TV top produce the best picture possible.

Don’t be intimidated, and soon enough you’ll be sitting comfortably on your couch drooling over a wall full of high-def goodness.
