Well that was quick. When Spotify launched to U.S. audiences back in July, we knew it was something special. Apparently, people seem to agree. Reuters says that the on-demand music service already has over 250,000 paying customers in the U.S. alone.
Spotify currently offers three levels of service. There is a free, ad-based Basic service. If you want to kill the ads, you can get the Spotify Unlimited service for $4.99 per month. Adding in mobile access, offline access, and streaming receivers and other electronic devices is part of the Spotify Premium package, which is $9.99 per month.
Snagging a Basic account may seem like a no-brainer. However, the streaming service is popping up on more consumer electronics—but that access will cost you. Spotify also recently announced Facebook integration, which made its debut last month. It’s now the social media site’s default music service, available in the left-hand column under the app labeled Music.
At press time, no one from Spotify had confirmed these numbers. However, last month, CEO Daniel Ek reported that the service had 2 million paying customers worldwide.
Spotify Premium is currently available through home devices made by Sonos, Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, Logitech, Western Digital. The company most recently added the Boxee Box to its list of devices.
