The SoundBulb uses Bluetooth and LEDs with an 8-ohm speaker behind it.
We love products that know how to multitask. Sure, your cell phone can play music and surf the web, but some of our favorites are not as obvious. For instance, we’ve seen plenty of rock and planter speakers. In 2007, Soundolier took it to the next level with the speaker/lamp combo. Then just a few weeks ago, we were talking up Hunter’s speaker/fan product. Now the magic of sound has been added to a semi-ordinary light bulb.
The SoundBulb taps into any audio source with Bluetooth support, then wirelessly transmits the sound to a replaceable 8-ohm speaker inside the bulb. Hopefully you won’t want these in very high places, because you need to screw the top to adjust the volume. It looks kind of funky, and as Gizmodo points out, it’s an LED bulb, so we won’t have to worry about heat.
One thing you will have to worry about: Where to find one. As far as we know, there are no plans to mass produce the device yet.

This is definately a product that I would like to take a serious look at if it were available!
The only downside was already pointed out, the volume control. If the manufacturer would put volume controls, source select, and speaker on/off in a bluetooth gang box controller unit, this product could revolutionize whole home audio!
I’m drooling over the prospect that someday soon I might be able to very easily add sound to basically every room in my house, as easily as swapping a few lightbulbs, and syncing a bluetooth device or two!
Hmmm our living room has 8 recessed lighting fixtures. Potentially 8 speakers? I want to know more!
