For a company that provides products expanding the whole A/V gamut, why not throw in some automation and deliver a turnkey solution for the home? That’s what Sony decided to do, adding home automation from Control4 as part of its NHS-130C rack system.
This streamlined approach gives professional installers a convenient solution, with everything right there pre-packaged in a Middle Atlantic rack shelf system to make it easy to implement this 12-zone video and audio distribution/home automation setup.
From Sony, the chief components include: 7.1-channel surround sound using a Sony ES receiver that can also upscale video content to 1080p; a 400-disc DVD/CD changer with a management system; a 160-GB music server; a Blu-ray Disc player; an AM/FM/XM/SIRIUS tuner; and the ability to add three auxiliary devices for connecting additional components like a high-definition cable box or a PlayStation gaming console; and iPod in-wall dock.
The Control4 products will also let you control your lighting, HVAC, and security in the mix. You’ll be able to add keypads and touchpanels and other control accessories through your local installer.
Sony says the solution will be available this spring, estimating that the fully installed price will range from $40,000 to $85,000 depending on the components incorporated. Look for more info at www.sony.com/newhome.
