Move over, Bose. There’s a new micro speaker in town.

Sony this week took the wraps off a compact home theater system with five satellite speakers each measuring roughly the size of a golf ball. The squarish speakers are the focal point of the DAV-IS10 micro home theater system, which also includes a CD/DVD player/receiver and a subwoofer module. A digital amplifier powers the system from the subwoofer, which delivers not only bass signals but midrange as well.

The system has an HDMI output which, when combined with Sony Bravia TVs, enables automatic power and component switching capabilities. The DVD player upconverts standard DVDs to 720p or 1080i output.

Sony’s Digital Media Port input on the rear of the unit accepts various optional Sony accessories, including a PC WiFi client for streaming digital music, a Bluetooth receiver that allows users to connect various Bluetooth-enabled devices to the system, and audio docking stations compatible with select Network Walkman and iPod products.

Yes virtual surround is more convenienet, however,I have never heard one that sounded good, or even bettet than 3.1! I just hear a reverby, fake sound.

Why go with satellite speakers when virtural surround-sound is much more convenient and has a smaller visual signature? Two compact virtual surround sound speakers would be much more convenient. This speaker system would probably be best in a car… where angles, space and positioning are tricky.
