If you don’t already own a Sony PlayStation 3 (or a couple of them), there’s another enticing option that was announced today at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany.

Sony will be delivering a limited edition 160-GB PS3 bundle that includes “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune,” a PlayStation Network voucher for “Pain,” and a Dualshock 3 wireless controller.

The PlayStation blogger noted that Sony’s been hearing that gamers, and movie watchers, were itching for more hard drive space with the launch of Sony’s new video delivery service.

The bundle will be out in November, just in time to add to your holiday shopping list, for $499.

Along with the PS3 160-GB bundle announcement, Sony also showed off an updated PSP system—the PSP-3000, which features a wider color gamut and higher contrast LCD screen plus a built-in microphone that allows for Skype calls and multi-player gaming communication straight from the hardware. PSP Entertainment Packs will stay at $199, or $169 for the PSP Core Pack.

Who is asking for more hard drive space? We all are. With the DVR service coming soon this is a must. We are also all asking for backwards compatibility. Sony in its infinite wisdom has sold the world on Blu-Ray and HDTV. Now it wants to tell people to play there old PS2 games on a a brand new 52 inch Sony LCD along side a PS3 which is capable of making them look better for a few dollars more.

Good thing I got the MGS4 bundle because I hooked up my PS2 to my brand new Sony 46” W3000 and it looked horrible. Same game on the PS3 great. Now if Sony were smart they would have keep both choices around. If they don’t what does it say about the benefits of HD gaming and HDTV?

I doubt this is a ‘limited edition’ - in fact this is a market try-out to see how well the higher capacity sells - all with movie downloads in mind (this is way they need more space Daekwan). Bye, I have to go play PS3 now….

Yeah, you know the only reason for this sku is to have a bigger hard drive than the 360 has.

Who in the hell is asking for more harddrive space?? Is this a joke?

Lower the price already.. its still $500.. maybe you’ve heard somebody say that!

The downside is that this is another PS3 with no backwards compatibility, so I guess once the MGS4 Bundle is gone, BC will be a thing of the past.

A shame, because the BC PS3 upscales PS2 games to make them look much nicer on big screens. So it isn’t as simple as “Well, just use your PS2 for your old games.”
