Now that 1080p is making headway in both Blu-ray and the satellite operators’ video-on-demand services, we can start looking ahead, right?

Sony has announced two new 4K projectors for the particularly well-heeled that need to replicate today’s digital cinemas as closely as possible in their own homes.

Both the SRX-T110 and SRX-T105 SXRD projectors feature resolutions of 4096 x 2160, super-bright Xenon lamps and super-high price tags.

Each model has a contrast ratio of 2,500:1, with the SRX-T110 including a brightness of 11,000 lumens; the SRX-T05, brightness of 5,000 lumens.

Having seen demonstrations of 4K projection at the recent CEDIA Expo from Meridian and JVC, I can report that the picture is stunning, even with upconverted video taken from broadcast TV. Of course, this type of projector is very far from mainstream right now, and you’ll have to pay a premium for that premium quality picture.

Sony says the projectors will be available in November—about $116,000 (at the current Euro rate) for the SRX-T110 and $73,000 for the SRX-T105.
