Sony Packs Networking Goodies into STR-DN1030 Receiver
Sony’s latest component includes Wi-Fi, AirPlay and Bluetooth features.

Earlier this year, we were talking up the Sony STR-DA5700ES Home Theater Receiver and its activity-based controls. Now, Sony has a new receiver, the STR-DN1030.

However, this new component isn’t one of the fancy ES models. Instead, it’s all about connectivity at a fraction of the price. For $499 (MSRP), the STR-DN1030 packs in built-in Wi-Fi, AirPlay and Bluetooth. Think Sony expects you to stream a few things?

One of those things could be Sony Entertainment Network’s Music Unlimited. This subscription-based service promises on-demand music for $9.99 per month. Of course, that wireless perk also makes Pandora, Slacker and vTuner possible, or you can just stream stuff from your own DLNA-enabled computers and components.

If you have a lot of music stored in iTunes or on your phone or tablet, the AirPlay and Bluetooth support are also extremely handy. Those with an iPhone or Android smartphone can also download Sony’s free Media Remote app for another control option.

Now, the STR-DN1030 does have other non-webby features. This 7.2-channel receiver features 145 watts per channel, 3D support, and seven HD inputs. It also has Sound Optimizer and High Definition Digital Cinema Sound (HD DCS) features and decoding for Dolby TrueHD, Pro Logic IIz and dts HD enhanced audio codecs.

On the video side, this receiver boasts upconversion of analog video signals to 1080i via HDMI and Faroudia DCDi Edge technology.

Sony says that the STR-DN1030 will start selling today. Look for it at the Sony Store and other retailers nationwide.
