CES was all about 3D this year, with TVs and Blu-ray players showcased throughout the Las Vegas expo. There wasn’t much in the way of info about when these items would become available, but Sony is making an early statement.

The company announced today its new BDP-S470 standalone player that’s 3D ready would be out in February, with the 3D ability coming as a firmware upgrade “this summer.” The upgrade will also be available for Sony’s previously released BDP-S570 standalone player as well as its BDV-E770W and BDV-E570 Blu-ray home theater systems.

And that’s just the half of it. Judging from Sony’s announcement and specs, these players seem to exemplify what we’ve been asking for in our Blu-ray, as we try to wean ourselves off of DVD.

The BDP-S470 will go for around $200 at the Sony Style store, says Sony, while the BDP-S570 will be about $250, also in February. The S570 features built in WiFi, and the S470 is wireless ready (you’ll need an adapter).

With that network connection, you also get a slew of web app features that are becoming key to the Blu-ray experience these days, so the Sony models aren’t lacking there: “all of the new models instantly stream movies, videos, music, and more from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Internet Radio, Pandora (coming this spring), NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and over 25 total providers through the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video platform.”

Also, according to the specs both can support SACD high-resolution music format.

Oh and one other thing, Sony’s created an iPhone/iPod touch (presumably iPad too) app so you can control the Blu-ray players and pull up metadata using those Apple devices.
