Sony Ericsson’s IDP-100 photo frame is designed as a companion for Cyber-shot phone users.
It’s not the first photo frame ever, but to Sony Ericsson, it sure is. The company just announced its very first photo frame. You can only put out so many phones each year, you know.
It sort of looks like a phone—a big, flat, square one. The company actually added the IDP-100 as a way to display the many digital photos you take with your Cyber-Shot phone. “For too long mobile phone images have been confined to the phone—hidden away and viewed only occasionally and only on a small screen,” the company says. Judging from my phone, those pictures are confined for a reason!
Users can transfer pics via a variety of memory formats, as well as Bluetooth. The 7-inch frame doubles as a touchscreen, which means a lot of cleaning, but also easy access to images as well as slideshows.
“The IDP-100 Digital Photo Frame is the perfect companion to your Cyber-shot phone and lets you display your favourite moments easily and in high quality for all to see,” says Jacob Sten, Sony Ericsson’s head of accessories. “However, it’s not just mobile phone users that can benefit from the IDP-100. We are proud that the frame receives stores and displays up to 500 still images through a variety of options. Once uploaded they are automatically rotated, enhanced and re-sized to fit the frame—so that you can enjoy your memories instantly.”
Notice the spelling of “favourite?” The announcement came out of the UK. There’s no word on whether the product will hit the U.S. For now, the company hasn’t announced a price and says the IDP-100 will be available in “select markets” by the end of the year.
