Watch VideoSony made a boatload of announcements today. One that really caught our eye is that the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TV is now available in the U.S. After 10 years of development, it’s about time.
The 11-inch XEL-1 is 3mm thin and boasts a contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1. Is that possible? Supposedly the technology prevents light emission when showing off blacks, making them well… really black.
Other features include a Memory Stick slot, two HDMI inputs and DMeX support, so you can stream web video for free.
Right now, the XEL-1 is only available at Sony Style stores for $2,500.

Not the marketing genius are you?
Hey, they managed to sell their inventory in japan the first day, why not?
Only Sony could put out a new 11” TV for $2500 and not be laughed out of the industry. Do they really expect to sell any? The technology is impressive, but I don’t even think a super rich person with money to burn would spend that much on such a small TV, OLED or no. Maybe they should have introduced it as a WatchMan in a 3” form factor for $500. That would make more sense.
