The world of digital music services seems to grow bigger every day. The latest poised to join the club seems to be Sony BMG.

The company’s chief executive Rolf Schmidt-Holtz told German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung this week that it is developing an online music subscription service that would allow users access to the entire Sony BMG catalog.

Not much detail was given as to when such a service would be rolled out, but Schmidt-Holtz was quoted as saying a simple flat rate would be the way to go, in the ballpark of 6 to 8 euros ($9 to $12) per month.

He also said that there might be a possibility of users being able to keep the downloads even after their subscriptions end, and that the music would be compatible with all portable digital music players, including iPods. Now we’ll just have to wait and see, or listen.
