Sony Announces Pricing for 4K Ultra HD Media Player
The new FMP-X10 will be discounted for anyone buying the player before July 15, 2014.
May 16, 2014 by Rachel Cericola

Last month, Sony announced pricing and availability for its 2014 4K Ultra HD TVs. However, they left out those same tidbits for the company’s new 4K Ultra HD Media Player. Now, they are closing out the week with that information—and hopefully a few pre-orders.

The 2014 version of the 4K Ultra HD Media Player, which also goes by the name FMP-X10, will start shipping in July with an MSRP of $699.

However, Sony is also saying that if you order the player between now and July 15, 2014, you’ll get a $200 discount. That will make the price just $499.

Sony’s 4K Ultra HD Media Player can download, stream and store all sort of 4K content. However, it’s important to note that it’s exclusive to those with Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs and projectors; it doesn’t work with other manufacturers’ hardware.

The box allows users to tap into Sony’s Video Unlimited 4K service, which currently offers over 200 titles. Those are good titles too, such as American Hustle and TV’s The Blacklist. The company also plans to add blockbusters, such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Annie remake, once they are available. While many of the titles are available to rent, Sony does have over 50 selections available at no charge.

If you’re looking for some 4K House of Cards (and Breaking Bad, which is coming in June), the player can also stream 4K content from Netflix. Other features include 1TB of built-in storage and support for Sony’s TRILUMINOS Color technology.

Sony’s 4K Ultra HD Media Player (FMP-X10) is now available for pre-order.
