Earlier we posted a story about smart, colored LED holiday lights that can be controlled via a smartphone. Now there’s another smartphone controllable (iPhone or Android) option, and this one from Rigado, called Lumenplay, comes with apps that let you play games with your lights, dance with your lights and personalize them to the max.
For example, using the Rigado Lumenplay mobile app, you can touch a color wheel to select a color for each light on a 10- or 20-foot strand then choose a special effect that alters the speed, direction and pattern of the lights. Play a song from your iTunes library and the lights will pulse with the beat.
When you’re not sure what to do let the app randomly choose colors for you—good for games like Twister or as a timer for Charades.
The mobile app offers other games, too, like a version of Simon Says where you follow then replay the pattern of the lights.
As many as 17 strands can be linked together so there’s plenty to wrap around a Christmas tree, deck or the gutters of your house. The strands come with strawberry-shaped bulb covers, which can be changed to stars, discs or balls to suit the occasion. Plus, they are very energy efficient, boasting a lifespan of 20,000 hours per light. They use very little electricity, costing less than $1 to operate for six hours a day, 90 days a year, according to Rigado.
Unfortunately you won’t be able to add them to your home this holiday season. Orders made now are not scheduled to be delivered until next fall, so maybe this is a good time to plan ahead. A variety of different packages are being offered with starter packs beginning at $79.
