We’ve seen a lot of smart home gadgets go up on crowdfunding sites lately. A lot of them can control lights or add a little security into your setup. The latest is Smart-Me, a multipurpose tool designed to monitor (and cut off) the energy and power consumption of certain electronic devices.
To use Smart-Me, you’ll need an iOS and/or Android device. This doesn’t just provide remote control and monitoring of the Smart-Me, but it also helps with the setup process. Once everything is plugged in and the Smart-Me is connected to your home’s Wi-Fi network, you can use the home automation app to peek in on the power, energy consumption, current, and voltage being used by electronics plugged into Smart-Me.
As far as the power part is concerned, Smart-Me can measure things like energy, current, voltage and power factor. It also has “remote switch” and “time switch” options built into the device, which basically means that you can control the power to the Smart-Me manually using your smartphone or set up a schedule where the device will turn on or shut down at preset times.
Another nifty feature is that the Smart-Me can monitor the temperature of the room, in real-time. This will come in handy if you have the Smart-Me connected to heating or cooling devices.
“Each high-quality unit is calibrated by hand at production and offers an accuracy of 99 percent,” says Smart-Me co-founder David Eberli.
Smart-Me will be seeking funding on Indiegogo through July 14, 2014. The early-bird price is listed at $99, with a four-pack going for $359. Once the project has been funded, backers can expect to see the first shipments of Smart-Me going out in October 2014.
