Sling Media, Inc. - innovators of the placeshifting SlingBox unit - are demonstrating their new SlingPlayer Mobile feature for BlackBerry, a highly requested feature that will be officially released later this year. The demonstration will take place in Las Vegas at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show, and the event should be well-attended. Sling Media’s products allow users to watch their digital television content anywhere they can get internet access, anytime, on numerous devices, including laptops and cellphones.
Blackberry smartphone users will need a Slingbox at home and the new SlingerPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry ($29.99) to access and control their home’s television content right on their smartphone. This can include live television, stored content on a DVR, and even HDTV. There are no montly or recurring fees charged to the SlingPlayer Media user, though one may pay for usage by way of jealous looks cast one’s way as the previous night’s DVR’d episode of 24 is watched on the morning commute.
One more reason for BlackBerry addiction? As if anyone needed one…
