This home theater is what the designer, Union Place of Excelsior, Minn., calls a “signature personal theater.” It has all the glitz and glamour of a larger theater, but it’s scaled down to be used by one or two people at a time.
The theater needed to be sleek and architectural with a limited number of elements to prevent it from looking busy. The homeowner gave Union Place free reign to imagine the scheme and some of the fun elements in the room.
Keeping within the budget, a simple acoustic material was chosen for the wall upholstery. Park Ave-inspired sconces were used to add interest and bling. The proscenium is simple, but striking — a curved faux ostrich cornice flanked with Chinoiserie panels. The Triad InWall Bronze/4 Speakers, which are part of a 5.1 system, are custom colored to match the wall fabric.
Two custom animal print ottomans were made in case the homeowner needs additional seating. Union Place added a faux finished ceiling to complete the project.
An Optoma HD7200 Projector is housed in the walk-in closet of the mater bedroom to isolate it from the viewing area. The The installer also upgraded the home’s digital backbone, distributing two HD DVRs, Blu-ray and an Escient MX-111 Media Server to the theater, kitchen and master bedroom. This is all easily controlled via the RTI T4 Touch Screen Control.
