While Netflix customers are still steaming from last week’s news about a pricing increase, companies are coming out of the woodwork to provide streaming media alternatives.

Today, Canadian company Shaw Communications announced the Shaw Movie Club, a service that provides subscribers with “hundreds of movie titles” for just $12 per month.

The fee is still $5 more than Netflix’s unlimited streaming plan. The Shaw announcement does mention movies like “Red,” “The Expendables,” and “Burlesque”—three titles that aren’t available for streaming on Netflix. Do those titles mean that much to people?

What does matter is the company’s monthly data cap, and how this service seems to be exempt. According to Shaw’s Facebook page: “Shaw Movie Club is intended to be watched through your set-top box. You can order your movies online through vod.shaw.ca and send it to your set-top box for viewing—watching movies on your set-top box won’t affect your included Internet data. However, you can also stream your Movie Club movies online to your computer—this WILL contribute to your Internet data.”

Also, at this time, Shaw is not offering any streaming in high-def. The company says that they plan to offer that option later this summer, for an additional $5 fee.
