Sharp’s Aquos LCD TVs are made in an environmentally friendly Japanese facility
Biggie TV manufacturer Sharp has been firmly behind energy efficiency with its LCDs TVs, beginning directly from the very green factory where they’re made.
That’s helped the company earn recognition of the “Evergreen Award” for demonstrating commitment to environmentally friendly manufacturing and operating procedures, given to it by the U.S. Government’s General Services Administration (GSA) National Furniture Center (NFC), in the category of technologies and electronics.
The company is also a major manufacturer of solar cells and proponent of solar electricity, as evident in its Generation 8 LCD panel plant in Kameyama, Japan, which boasts the world’s largest rooftop photovoltaic power system. Along with cogeneration systems and fuel cells, the solar-generated electricity supplies one-third of the electrical power used in the plant.
Sharp says its goal is to reduce its worldwide greenhouse gas emissions so that by fiscal 2010 the amount it emits will be equal to the quantity of greenhouse gases avoided by using the company’s energy-efficient products and solar cells it’s produced in the previous 20 years.
We all know it’s not easy being green, but it’s good to hear some companies are trying pretty hard.
