If you circled the February 17 DTV switch date on your calendar, we hope you didn’t use pen.
After much speculation, the Senate voted Monday, and decided that consumers do need a few extra months to prepare for the digital TV transition. According to the AP, the real DTV switch will go down on June 12—four months after the original date.
According to a recent Nielsen report, more than 6.5 million U.S. homes are still not ready for the switch. The date change also allows the government to issue a few more $40 converter coupons.
Earlier this month, President Obama was pushing for the move, so that the government could catch up on its coupon programs. More than 2.5 million Americans are currently on the waiting list. Supposedly, those with expired coupons will also be able to apply for replacements.

Stupid!!!!
It should have been in June in the first place.!
My main issue is that it shouldn’t have been in February in the first place.
The Stupid goes to the genius to set the date now in the first place.
The idea of having to send out thousands of people to do service call and climb roofs and hook up anantenas in February was stupid in the first place, No matter how much you plan, there are going to be issues the require a real person to go the to site to fix, and having to have them go out in the middle of February, where most of the country is cold, wet and icy and snow covered, was not smart.
So in that respect moving it is good, But the other question is how is this going to confuse consumers, and cost broadcasters money reeducating the consumer, and keeping their analog towers up and going.
Thats not even counting the voucher money running out.

Watch it; because we’re already living it.
Just DO IT, for goodness sakes! There will ALWAYS be someone who is not ready. And, this is not a life and death situation - the worst that can happen is that someone, somewhere, will not be able to see their Oprah re-runs for a day or two.
And, mark my words, it won’t take the laggards more than a day or so to make the switch once their screen goes dark…

It is interesting how the government has been talking about the all digital switch for, what, over 3 years now, and a few weeks before it happens, HOLD THE PHONE! We just realized that over 6 billion people aren’t ready for this! Like the previous poster said, look for it to be pushed back again - people will continue to blow off getting a converter until they absolutely have to. Maybe only 4 billion won’t be ready by June!

It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
Oh kill me now…..this means we have to put up with watching those dumb comercials by everyone and their brother for another 4 months, because a bunch of idiots cant figure out how to request their free $40 card. Come on America get off your #$% and just get it done already.
P.S. you dont need a new antenna for DTV, your old on will work just fine.
