Another security company is selling home energy management systems. APX Alarm has announced that it is selling a Go!Control security panel with a home energy management package that can save customers up to $24 a month in energy utility bills.
Security giant ADT is already selling iControl-based software in test markets for remote connectivity to adjust thermostat settings, security cameras and lights, and the company plans to introduce an energy monitoring component in the future. (Stay tuned for a big story on ADT’s plans in sister publication CE Pro magazine and on CEPro.com.)
APX Alarm’s energy management package will also allow remote control of a thermostat and home lighting and appliance systems with remote access capability, according the company.
APX says the thermostat settings can be programmed and are fully customizable to a homeowner’s schedule. “APX will provide three pre-programmed settings with Energy Star guidelines that differ according to desired energy bill savings,” states an APX press release.
“It allows the customer to go in and choose from three setback point schedules for both cooling and heating with just a click,” says Jim Nye, VP of business development for APX.
The APX Go!Control system uses wireless Z-Wave technology and software from Alarm.com. The packaged system includes a private-labeled APX thermostat and an additional gift of 12 energy-saving CFL light bulbs. Customers pay $60 up front for the thermostat and $6.99 per month for the fully-supported service.
Existing customers will also be offered the energy management system as an add-on service.
