Don’t have a dedicated theater that you can make black as night for when you want to watch a movie? No problem. Screen Research’s latest addition to its SolidPix line lets you add a screen to just about any room environment.

The French manufacturer has announced its GrayPix Ultra-contrast screen fabric is shipping, so you can have it installed in your dedicated theater room or, the increasingly common multi-purpose media room.

The Imaging Science Foundation-certified screen material will work well in rooms with more ambient light, with the gray helping to boost contrast to achieve quality black levels from your projector’s images.

GrayPix also provides proper color balance for white field uniformity throughout the screen, the company says, and features off-axis properties that eliminate hot spotting on larger screen sizes.

Screen Research notes that the Ultra-contrast fabric has a 0.7 on-axis gain that works particularly well with high-performance 3-chip DLP and D-ILA projectors. The fabric can be incorporated in all of the company’s fixed or motorized screens, with aspect ratios covering 4:3, 16:9 and the increasingly popular 2.35:1 CinemaScope models.
