We’ve seen companies put sound into lighting fixtures before (don’t forget here and here as well). So what makes SCM’s The Sound of Light so different? They’ve got Texas Instruments inside.

SCM Enterprises says that the upcoming Sound of Light wireless speaker packs in TI’s Purepath Wireless Audio Technology to deliver a “professional home sound experience” via any lamp socket.

Designed for use in apartments, dorm rooms, offices or at home, the Sound of Light setup is easy to install—and move, if necessary. Up to four speakers can be linked to an iPod, iPad or other MP3 device through the system’s wireless transmitter.

Boasting a a range of up to 300 feet, The Sound of Light system comes with one lamp speaker, one transmitter and a remote control, for $299. Each additional lamp speaker costs $139. SCM says that The Sound of Light will be available via major national retailers starting next month.
