Samsung Unveils BD-P4600 Wall-Mountable Blu-ray Player
The Profile 2.0 BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player is wall-mountable with 1080p upscaling and HD soundtrack support.
January 07, 2009 | by Steve Crowe

Samsung unveiled its BD-P3600 and BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player, the world’s first wall-mountable Blu-ray Player, at CES 2009.

Both new players include BD Live (Profile 2.0) and Bonus View (Profile 1.1) support, 1080p playback with DVD upscaling and total HD soundtrack support.

Each player offers instant streaming of Netflix and Pandora (subscriptions required) and have 1GB internal flash memory.

They come with Samsung’s Touch of Color (ToC) design, and the BD-P3600‘s settop form is just two inches tall. The wall-mountable BD-P4600 is just 1.5 inches tall with a piano black design. The BD-P4600 has an integrated stand that lets it rest on a table at a 25-degree angle.

The players wirelessly connect to Blu-ray features by connecting the 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi dongle to the two USB 2.0 ports or via the Ethernet connection.

Both internally decode the latest high-res digital multichannel audio soundtracks, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD HR/MA. The BD-P3600 can also output any of the soundtracks as a bitstream through its 7.1-Channel analog audio outputs or as an uncompressed PCM signal.

Pricing and availability weren’t announced.

DVD-H1080 Second-Gen DVD Player
The DVD-H1080, following up last year’s DVD-F1080, is just larger than a Blu-ray disc and weight just more than two pounds.

Other features:

  • ToC Design
  • Upscaling to 1080p
  • USB Host Play for multimedia playback, including DivX, MP3 and JPEG file

The DVD-H1080 will ship in the first half of 2009.

HT-BD8200 Sound Bar
Samsung is claiming its HT-BD8200 to be the first home theater sound bar to have a Blu-ray player and wireless subwoofer. It can also stream Netflix and Pandora content.

The HT-BD8200 is compatible with BD-Live and offers 1080p playback and 5.1-channel surround sound. It’s only 2.6 inches deep and has Samsung’s ToC design.

The sound bar comes with Smart Volume technology to adjust volume on-the-fly.

Other features:

  • Built-in USB port or Bluetooth wireless connectivity for playback of multimedia files
  • An iPod dock

Pricing and availability not announced.

HT-BD7200, HT-BD1250 Blu-ray Home Theater Systems
The 2.1-channel HT-BD7200 pumps out 400W output and simulated 5.1-channel surround sound using two speakers. The system is also equipped with wireless networking via an optional 802.11 b/g/n USB dongle.

It’s dressed in Samsung’s ToC design with a charcoal grey coating to the black bezel.

The HT-BD1250 is also Wi-Fi ready and boasts 1,000 watts of output and 5.1-Channel sound and decoding of HD formats including, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

LED HDTVs
Samsung’s 8000, 7000 and 6000 Series of LED HDTVs use LEDs as their primary light source

Each of LED HDTV line-ups boast Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus frame interpolation technology. The 8000 Series has a refresh rate of 240Hz, while the 7000 and 6000 Series have 120Hz refresh rate.

The 8000 and 7000 Series will feature “Internet@TV - Content Service” to give viewers access to the Yahoo! Widget Engine. The 6000 Series includes Samsung’s InfoLink RSS service, which displays news, sports, weather and stock info.

Other features:

  • USB ports
  • Depth of just more than one inch
  • An ATSC tuner
  • Wall-mount solution that keeps the TV 0.6 inches away from the wall
  • Compliance with Energy Star 3.0 standards
