Samsung Dual High-Def DVD Delayed
It's looking like the BD-U5000 combo high-def player might miss your holiday wishlist.
October 03, 2007 | by Rachel Cericola

Something might be missing under your tree this holiday. Don’t blame Santa; Samsung is the one to put on your naughty list.

Crunch Gear says that the company’s plan to delve into dual high-def DVD hardware is going to be a bit delayed. The BD-U5000 now has a December release date.

The company did originally say that the product would be out in Q4—it just looks like it could miss your Christmas list. However, Samsung hasn’t confirmed the news; maybe they want to avoid another traditional holiday shopping skirmish.

The rumored price will be about $1,000. Check our original product announcement for all of the specs.

Thanks for the tip, budabellyx. That is good news—and the pricing is excellent news.

I work at a retailer and it is showing up in our inventory as an October release still, and that the price point is $799.99

Sorry… it’s not AVS’ fault. We post the stories there for them.

It seems to be a big rumor on the web, which unfortunately are sometimes false (and unfortunately sometimes true!).

Like we said in the article, they did originally say Q4, so even if it is December, they wouldn’t be lying… it just might be a little late for the holidays.

Hopefully Santa will bring you one!

Pretty irresponsible AVS!

This rumor has been around for a week now, and there still has been nothing “official” stated by Samsung to confirm or deny any delay.

Shame on AVS for passing this along as fact, when it is at this time, still an unconfirmed rumor.

This may all be true, but until I see a press release from Samsung, I will stay on the side of reality, and not believe news with no facts to back up the story.
